The Hippopotamus loves the water and spends around eighteen hours a day in it. When the night has come they follow paths to feeding grounds. Hippos are one of the most feared animals in Africa. This is probably because of their size and aggressiveness. They live in small herd of about 10-20 hippos. Each herd has a ferocious male who will guard his stretch of river bank with his life. First, he shows his tusks, but if that doesn't work he will fight. The male will let other males enter, but he keeps the breeding rights with the females.
